Baltimore City Landlords – Still Not in Compliance?

As we approach the year 2020, I’m wondering if Baltimore City is about to make a big money grab on landlords. The link at the bottom of this post lets you look up the address of any rental property in the city to see if it is in compliance with the registration and inspection requirements.

If all properties needed to be in compliance by January 1, 2019 and there are still an estimated 20,000 that are not as of today, my math says they could technically mail out up to $3.5 Billion in fines to landlords. That doesn’t even include properties where the owner forgot to log in and pay for the annual renewal. Not sure they really will, but who knows?

Here is an excerpt from the Ordinance that took effect on August 1, 2018:

Any person who violates a provision of this subtitle or of a rule, regulation, or order adopted or issued under this subtitle is guilty of a misdemeanor and, on conviction, is subject to a fine of not more than $500 for each offense. Each day a separate offense.

Take a look for yourself – are your properties in compliance?
